ZAINAB IS FREE TO PURSUE LEGAL CHANNELS, IF SHE FEELS AGGRIEVED - GM, YES FM

Following the backlash from the general public that has greeted the summary dismissal of 4 members of Staff of Yes FM, Ibadan. The General Manger of the new station, Fola Folayan, has issued a second statement, where she specifically addressed the trending story of one of the affected staff, Zainab Fakunle.

Earlier today, Zainab Fakunle has taken to her Tweeter page to lament how she was dismissed by the station due to her speech defect, Rhotacism, which makes it impossible for her to properly pronounce the letter "R". She also stated that what made the dismissal most painful to her was the statement credited to the station, where it was alleged that she was dismissed for "Gross Misconduct and Non-Professionalism"

In a swift response to the ongoing discussion, which is currently getting many reactions on Twitter and some popular Instagram blogs, the General Manager has issued another statement to specifically address the allegations of Miss Fakunle.

Below is the Statement as seen by Primus Media on the personal Instagram page of the General Manager @thefavoredwoman

"I was going to unlook and let the official statements we have put out from @yesfmibadan deal with this but at this time, it is important some things are made clear.

Amid all the sentiments and emotional outbursts; these facts remain;

1. Rhotacism is not "a regional accent".

 It is a speech impediment. One that can be worked on and corrected if the individual truly desires to.

2. Rhotacism is not acceptable in broadcasting as this is considered a hindrance to clear communication. A professional broadcaster must adhere to the highest possible standard.

2. Zainab Fakunle was hired on probation and given a temporary employment contract that states the terms of her probation clearly that both parties can terminate the employment anytime within the probationary period. (SHE WILLINGLY SIGNED IT)

3. Zainab Fakunle was told to work on her Rhotacism and given several chances to improve. She did not.

4. Zainab Fakunle was not "fired for misconduct" as she claims. She was let go based on the terms of her probation and this was made clear to her.

5. If Zainab however feels agrieved, she is free to pursue legal channels tendering the temporary employment contract that she signed and her letter of disengagement.

I'm sure her lawyers will advise her appropriately."
