No Rift with Makinde, Coronation Delay Explained — Olubadan Palace Sets Record Straight
The Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed reports suggesting a rift between the monarch and Seyi Makinde, describing such claims as false and misleading.
In a press statement issued on April 2, 2026, the palace clarified that there is no disagreement between the revered monarch and the governor, reaffirming the cordial relationship between both leaders.
The palace also debunked speculation that the Olubadan travelled out of Ibadan to avoid the coronation ceremony scheduled for Friday, April 3. It stated emphatically that the monarch remains in Ibadan, hale and hearty, and continues to carry out his traditional responsibilities.
Addressing the status of the planned coronation, the palace disclosed that the three High Chiefs slated for elevation had formally notified the Olubadan of their inability to attend the ceremony. Consequently, they requested a postponement, a development that has been officially communicated to the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
