Alaba Excel Abbey, a key figure in the election campaign team of the current Governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was tragically murdered at his residence in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area. Mr. Abbey, who held the position of ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), was also the returning officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 during the recent party primary.
The news of his death was confirmed by his younger brother, Samuel Abbey, who shared that the politician was shot in front of his house. The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF) strongly condemned the violent killing and called on security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure the safety of its members.
Speaking on behalf of the campaign organization, spokesperson Kayode Fasua expressed that the late Abbey had been actively engaged in campaigning for Aiyedatiwa until his untimely death. David Ajobiewe, the Director-General of LACO-FS in Akoko Southwest Local Government, described the incident as a significant tragedy, emphasizing that Abbey was known for his dedication and peaceful demeanor.
The police authorities confirmed that an investigation into the homicide was underway. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya assured that the state command was actively working to gather all necessary information to bring the perpetrators to justice.
