Breaking News: Sanusi Officially Reinstated As 16th Emir Of Kano
His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II was officially reinstated as the 16th Emir of Kano on Friday morning.
The reinstatement occurred just a day after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State reappointed him as Emir by signing a bill that abolished the five emirates formed by the previous administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje.
Before this event, Sanusi had already received his appointment letter as the Emir of Kano.
The ceremony took place at the Art Chamber of the Kano State Government House on Friday, attended by Governor Abba Yusuf, traditional rulers, kingmakers, and various dignitaries.
After a four-year absence from the throne due to his removal by Ganduje's government, Emir Sanusi was reinstated.
The new law revokes the Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019, and dissolves the emirate councils established by Ganduje.
This particular law facilitated the division of the Kano Emirate into five separate emirates in December 2019, resulting in Sanusi II's deposition on March 9, 2020. In addition to Kano, the emirates created under Ganduje's administration included Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya.
Emir Sanusi II, previously known as Lamido Sanusi before becoming a king, also served as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
