Lagos-Calabar Coastal Project: Peter Obi Inciting Igbo Against FG, Says Umahi | Objectv Media
Works Minister, David Umahi on Wednesday, claimed that Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi is pushing the southeast, particularly the ignorant, to rebel against the federal government.
Umahi stated this while speaking during an event organized by the Federal Ministry of Works to compensate property owners affected by the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
The minister added that Obi failed to advocate for the people even after leading them into difficulties.
The public has expressed disapproval towards the 700-kilometer coastal highway project, which is anticipated to cost the federal government N15 trillion, due to the $200 million demolition of the Landmark Beach Resort to make room for the road's right-of-way.
Paul Onwuanibe, Group CEO of Landmark, voiced his concerns over the development after the demolition, stating that it will affect jobs, livelihoods, and businesses.
Regarding the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, Obi had chastised President Bola Tinubu's administration.
The Labour Party candidate emphasized the need to prioritize national security, poverty alleviation, healthcare, and education over controversial infrastructure projects.
He berated the insensitivity of the reported demolitions in the project’s designated right of way, noting the devastating effects on livelihoods and investments.
But, Umahi defended the government’s actions, dismissing claims of inhumanity towards Landmark.
The minister accused Obi of spreading misinformation that incites the uninformed population.
Umahi said he has been directly involved in resolving the project's issues and advised people to use caution and refrain from making snap judgements that could get them into trouble.
