Breaking News: Customs Intercept Arms and Ammunition Worth ₦270 Million at Lagos Airport, One Suspect Arrested
In a major breakthrough, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a significant consignment of arms and ammunition at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMA) in Lagos, valued at ₦270 million. The seized items, which originated from Turkiye, included 55 pieces of Tomahawk semi-automatic short guns, military equipment, and gear.
One suspect has been apprehended in connection with the intercepted consignment, which was found in the cargo section of the airport. This latest recovery comes barely 48 hours after the seizure of a container filled with arms and ammunition smuggled into the country from Turkiye at Onne Port, Rivers State, worth N4.17 billion.
The Comptroller General of the NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, confirmed the latest recovery, stating that the MMA 2 command deployed personnel to man all exit points and conducted examinations on all consignments due to available intelligence.
