Breaking News: National Grid Collapses Again, Nigeria Plunged into Darkness
Nigeria's power grid has collapsed again, leaving the country in darkness. According to the Independent System Operator, an autonomous arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the power plants' contribution to the grid started decreasing around 2 pm, dropping from an average of 3,417.99MW to 2,797.16MW.
By 3 pm, electricity generation had further declined to 1,020.08MW, before dramatically falling to a mere 0.80MW by 4 pm. The Trans-Amadi Power Plant was the only plant generating electricity, producing a meager 0.80MW.
This marks the fourth power grid collapse in 2024, highlighting the country's persistent struggles with electricity generation and supply. The frequent grid collapses have resulted in widespread blackouts, disrupting economic activities and causing inconvenience to citizens.
The cause of the latest grid collapse is yet to be ascertained, but investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause and prevent future occurrences. In the meantime, Nigerians will have to rely on alternative sources of power to meet their energy needs.
