Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has called on Nigerian pastors to stop exploiting their members through seed sowing for financial prosperity. Speaking during a Christian meeting on Friday, October 18, Kumuyi urged religious leaders to help the poor, particularly widows, instead of taking advantage of them.
In his message, Kumuyi expressed concern about how church founders are becoming wealthier at the expense of their congregants, particularly those struggling financially. He emphasized that pastors should provide solutions to the needs of their members, rather than pressuring them into giving away their limited resources under the promise of divine blessings.
Kumuyi said, "There are preachers who take the little that widows have and brainwash them with promises of multiplied blessings. We must be sincere; these widows often have next to nothing, yet they give everything they have, believing in the promises of their preachers."
He urged Nigerian clergy to follow the example of biblical figures like Elijah and Elisha, who added value to the lives of the poor and suffering, rather than exploiting them. Kumuyi stressed the need for pastors to care for their members' well-being, especially the widows and the needy in society.
"The preachers of today are getting richer at the expense of their church members. This should not be. Let somebody speak out," he added.
