Breaking News: Lagos state Cancels Work-From-Home Initiative, Workers to Resume Fully
The Lagos State Government has officially announced the cancellation of its work-from-home initiative for public servants, with the directive set to take effect from March 31, 2025.
State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, issued the directive in a circular on Tuesday, citing the implementation of the new minimum wage and other government interventions aimed at improving the welfare of workers.
The work-from-home policy was introduced in February 2024 as a temporary measure to cushion the economic hardship brought on by the removal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The initiative was part of a broader set of interventions designed to support public servants during a challenging economic period.
However, with the implementation of a new minimum wage and other welfare measures, the state government has deemed it necessary for workers to return fully to their offices.
The circular stated: "Further to the implementation of the New Minimum Wage in the State Public Service and other commendable measures put in place by this administration to improve the welfare and well-being of Public Servants in Lagos State, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative in the Lagos State Public Service."
Public servants have been urged to rededicate themselves to their responsibilities and ensure improved service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Additionally, Accounting Officers have been instructed to disseminate the directive widely to ensure compliance.
As the March 31 deadline approaches, state workers are expected to fully resume office operations, marking the end of the remote work policy introduced to mitigate economic challenges.
