Breaking News:Wike Revokes PDP National Secretariat Land
In a major development, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocation of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja due to non-payment of ground rent for two decades.
The revocation notice, dated March 13, 2025, was contained in an official letter titled, “Notice of right of occupancy with file no: MISC 81346 in respect of plot no: 243 within central area district, Abuja.” The notice was signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the Director of Land Administration for the FCT.
According to the minister, the opposition party has failed to pay the annual ground rent on the property from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. Despite repeated notifications through national newspapers and electronic media urging compliance, the party neglected to settle its outstanding obligations.
“I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT and inform you that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory has in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja,” the letter stated.
The minister further justified the decision, citing Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, which empowers the FCT Administration to revoke land rights over continued breaches of tenancy terms.
He added that his administration will immediately take possession of the PDP national secretariat land until all outstanding dues are fully cleared.
This decision could significantly impact the operations of the PDP, which has used the premises as its national headquarters for years. Political analysts believe that the revocation underscores Wike’s strict stance on compliance with land regulations in the capital territory.
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP leadership is yet to issue an official statement regarding the development.
