Breaking News:NEC Confirms Nentawe Yilwatda as APC National Chairman, Replaces Ganduje
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, as the new National Chairman of the ruling party.
The announcement was made during the party’s NEC meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Professor Yilwatda’s nomination was put forward by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen. He was immediately sworn in following the confirmation.
Yilwatda’s appointment signals a strategic return of the APC national chairmanship to the North Central zone, in line with the party’s original zoning arrangement. He hails from Plateau State and replaces former Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who recently resigned from the position.
The development has been welcomed by party members from the North Central region, who have long demanded a return of the seat to the zone in the spirit of equity and internal balance.
With his new role, Yilwatda is expected to steer the party through ongoing internal reforms and prepare it for future elections, including the 2027 general polls.
