Crisis Rocks Lagos APC as Yaba Council Chairman Omiyale Allegedly Sabotages Party Candidate for PDP’s Dosunmu, LASIEC Officer Demands Result Cancellation
A major internal crisis has hit the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the shocking loss of a councillorship seat in Ward D, Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) the only seat the ruling party lost across the state in the just-concluded local government elections.
Investigations by Lagos Reporters reveal that the defeat was allegedly orchestrated by key APC leaders in the area, including the Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Kayode Adejare Omiyale, and former House of Representatives member, Jide Jimoh, who are accused of working against the party's official candidate, Oladipupo Daniel Adeosun.
A supervisory presiding officer who participated in the election told Lagos Reporters under condition of anonymity that he was threatened and coerced by hoodlums to declare Babatunde Dosunmu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner. He alleged that the attackers were sponsored by Dosunmu and had the full backing of Omiyale and other local APC leaders.
The officer has since called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to reverse the declared result, citing intimidation and electoral malpractice.
This development is especially troubling as both Hon. Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun, the current House of Representatives member representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, and Omiyale, the outgoing Yaba LCDA Chairman, hail from the embattled Ward D further deepening the cracks within the party in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Multiple residents who spoke to Lagos Reporters alleged that Omiyale deliberately sabotaged the APC candidate in a calculated political move to weaken Hon. Oshun’s influence ahead of 2027. Omiyale, who is completing his final term as council chairman on July 26, 2027, is said to be nursing ambitions to contest for the House of Representatives seat currently held by Oshun.
"This was not just an election loss. It was an act of betrayal from within. If the party does not address this crisis, we may be heading for a full-blown implosion by 2027," said a concerned APC member in the area.
Another resident warned that if swift action is not taken, the crisis could deepen factionalism and weaken the APC’s grip on Lagos Mainland, which has long been considered a party stronghold.
Political watchers are calling on the APC leadership at the state and national level to wade into the matter urgently and resolve the internal rift before it festers into a full-blown crisis.
