BREAKING: Uzodimma Raises Imo Workers’ Minimum Wage to ₦104,000, Approves New Pay for Doctors, Lecturers
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has announced a new minimum wage of ₦104,000 for state civil servants, effective immediately.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a meeting with state labour leaders at the Government House, Owerri. The governor said the increment was made possible by higher federal allocations under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and was aimed at boosting workers’ morale, productivity, and the state’s economy.
Highlights of the new wage structure include:
- Minimum Wage: ₦104,000 – more than 25% above the national minimum wage benchmark of ₦75,000.
- Medical Doctors: ₦582,000 per month (though some reports indicate ₦533,000).
- Lecturers: ₦222,000 monthly for entry-level lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions.
- Pensioners: ₦16 billion earmarked to clear outstanding gratuity arrears.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the new wage package was designed not only to improve workers’ welfare but also to retain skilled professionals, particularly in the state’s healthcare and education sectors.
