Breaking News: Police Arrest Notorious Armed Robber Caught on Camera Stealing Gold Necklace from Gbenga Obama in Broad Daylight in Ikeja
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a 28-year-old notorious armed robber and hired assassin, John Samuel, in his hideout at Epe on Friday, September 19.
Samuel, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, was tracked and arrested by detectives following weeks of surveillance. According to the command’s deputy spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the suspect recently released from prison after serving a six-year jail term for armed robbery quickly returned to crime.
On August 18, Samuel allegedly shot and wounded businessman Gbenga Obama in broad daylight on Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. CCTV footage obtained from the scene showed him firing at the victim with an English pistol before snatching a gold necklace and valuables, while his accomplice waited on a motorcycle for their escape. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, has since been treated and discharged.
Oluseyi revealed that Samuel confessed to selling the stolen jewelry for just ₦4 million, far below its actual value. He added that the suspect is notorious for shooting at victims before dispossessing them of their belongings.
“The command is intensifying efforts to arrest other members of his gang, and they will all be prosecuted on completion of investigation,” Oluseyi stated.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh, commended the gallantry of the operatives behind the arrest and assured Lagosians that discreet investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire gang.
