Kogi Govt.Opens 42 IDP Camps As Floods Sack Five Communities
The Kogi State Government has opened 42 IDP camps after floods sacked five communities in the State.
Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Mouktar Atima, said this when he met key players in Lokoja, the State capital to find ways to avert the devastating effects of this year's predicted flooding in the State.
Since 2012 when Kogi State was severely hit by flooding, things have never remained the same for some residents, especially those living in flood prone communities across the nine Local Government Areas of the State.
The outcome of the recent prediction by the Federal Ministry of environment that Kogi will experience flooding in late September is already telling on the people as five communities in Ibaji and Kogi LGAs, including Ota, Ofogbo, Itima, and Owara have already been submerged by floods.
With this disturbing development, the government has told those residing in flood prone areas to relocate to higher grounds.
Some of the key players insisted on the need for deepened collaboration to reduce the devastating effects of flooding in the State.
As the water level continue to rise, affected communities are appealing to government not to relent in providing them with necessary assistance because this year's flooding is both threatening their presence and their future.
