Tragedy Averted as Loaded Truck Falls Off Oshodi Bridge, LASTMA Rescues Injured Victim
A major accident was averted in Oshodi, Lagos, after a fully-loaded truck conveying tonner printing materials lost control and plunged off the Oshodi bridge into the terminal area below. The truck, which reportedly suffered a critical mechanical failure while descending the bridge, veered off the carriageway before tumbling down.
The incident, which occurred Thursday, could have resulted in multiple casualties but was quickly contained due to the swift and coordinated response of officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Eyewitnesses confirmed that LASTMA officers arrived at the scene within minutes, leading rescue efforts and managing the heavy traffic buildup that followed.
A male victim who sustained severe injuries in the crash was promptly rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, the truck driver was apprehended and handed over to officers of Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, who have since commenced investigations into the crash. Authorities will be examining the reported brake failure and other mechanical conditions that may have contributed to the accident.
The swift intervention of LASTMA officials was credited with preventing what could have been a large-scale tragedy in one of Lagos’ busiest transport hubs.
