Court Gives Green Light: Oyo High Court Clears PDP to Hold National Convention in Ibadan
The political atmosphere in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received a major boost as the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has officially cleared the party to go ahead with its Elective National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025.
Hon. Justice A. L. Akintola delivered the landmark ruling on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Suit No. I/1336/2025 instituted by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary.
The court expressly ordered the PDP, its servants, agents, and officers not to truncate or obstruct the approved guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities for the convention, ensuring that the party leadership proceeds without any form of internal sabotage or disruption.
In a further decisive directive, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was ordered to deploy monitors and observers to the venue — Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan — to ensure transparency and strict compliance with electoral laws during the two-day exercise.
Additionally, the court mandated the Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to continue with all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event.
With this judgment, all legal hurdles surrounding the forthcoming convention have now been removed, ensuring that over 3,000 delegates — including governors, National Assembly members, statutory delegates, and party stakeholders from across the federation — can actively participate in advancing the party’s next phase of leadership.
The PDP is expected to intensify preparations ahead of the significant electoral gathering, which is anticipated to shape the direction of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
