Edo SWAN Applauds Gov Okpebholo’s Drive in Sports, Rallies Behind Enabulele
The Edo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has thrown its full weight behind the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, passing a firm vote of confidence in his leadership at an emergency congress held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Media Centre in Benin City.
The congress, called to address key concerns within the Association, ended with a unanimous endorsement of Enabulele. Members praised his steady commitment to repositioning Edo as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports and his push to build lasting structures that can support athletes and administrators for years to come.
Delegates also lauded the Edo State Government for what they described as bold and strategic investments in facilities, athlete welfare, and programmes designed to strengthen the state’s entire sports ecosystem. They noted that the current administration has shown clear intent to boost opportunities for athletes, coaches, associations, and other stakeholders across the sector.
In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele said he was deeply encouraged by the vote of confidence, calling it a boost that reinforces the team’s commitment to delivering results.
“I am humbled by this overwhelming show of support from Edo SWAN,” he said. “This recognition is for the entire team at the Edo State Sports Commission and the unwavering backing we enjoy from the state government. It strengthens our resolve to keep pushing for the growth of sports in Edo State.”
He described sports journalists as critical partners whose reporting shapes public perception of the Commission’s work. “Their constructive scrutiny and objective coverage are vital. This gesture tells us we are moving in the right direction,” he added.
Enabulele restated the Commission’s commitment to developing sustainable systems that nurture local talent, protect infrastructure, and prepare Edo athletes to compete and win on national and international stages. He also thanked Governor Monday Okpebholo, crediting the administration’s support as the backbone of the Commission’s progress.
The congress equally reaffirmed confidence in the Chairman of Edo SWAN, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, praising his leadership and professionalism. Members stressed they would not allow any individual or group to undermine his authority or compromise ethical sports reporting in the state.
