NYSC Withdraws Corps Member Over Viral Comment on Female Students

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn a corps member, Oyaje Daniel, from his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) at Judeen International School, Annex Section, Mando, after a viral online comment he made about teenage female students sparked widespread outrage.

Daniel, serving in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, had posted a remark considered inappropriate and derogatory, prompting swift reactions across social media. Following the backlash, the NYSC State Disciplinary Committee summoned him for questioning. He appeared before the committee alongside his CDS President.

The Alumni President of his college, Comr. Philip Ayuba Bobai, and activist John Adesogan later accompanied him to the NYSC Headquarters in Kaduna for further engagements with officials.

After preliminary investigations, the NYSC withdrew Daniel from his PPA and redeployed him to the NYSC Headquarters in Kaduna, where he will complete the remainder of his service year under strict supervision.

An investigative panel has also been directed to visit his former PPA to determine whether any misconduct occurred beyond the online statement.

The NYSC noted that any further wrongdoing uncovered would be reported to relevant authorities. Officials added that other corps members who posted similarly inappropriate comments under the viral thread are being monitored and will also face disciplinary action.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on behavior that compromises community safety or undermines its values, the NYSC stated that Daniel’s case should serve as a warning on the consequences of irresponsible social media use.
