PDP Meltdown: Ibadan Chief, Guber Hopeful Aborisade Warns of ‘Advanced Confusion,’ Urges Secret Truce Talks
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Tuesday after a faction loyal to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike announced the expulsion of Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, ex-BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, Chief Bode George, Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja and others for alleged anti-party activities.
The faction, which held its 103rd NEC meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, also dissolved the PDP executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti States, deepening tensions within the opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
But reacting to the development, Ibadan Chief, PDP chieftain and Oyo State gubernatorial hopeful, Barrister Niyi Aborisade, warned that the party was slipping into what he described as “advanced confusion,” saying the confrontation between the two camps had reached a dangerous height.
“At this stage, what we need is unity,” Aborisade said. “During the convention of November 15 and 16, Wike and his associates were expelled. Now Wike and Damagun have expelled Makinde and 16 others, including Bode George and Arapaja. This is advanced confusion within our party.”
Aborisade cautioned that the crisis had spiralled beyond internal quarrel and now threatened the party’s survival.
“The fire of rebellion is burning out of control,” he warned. “If it is not quenched immediately, the PDP may not produce any candidate in the coming election.”
The Ibadan Chief renewed his appeal for reconciliation, urging all warring factions to prioritise the party’s stability over personal battles.
“I appeal to all combatants to sheath their swords,” he said. “Let them pick up their phones, call one another, hold a private meeting if they must, and settle this matter. The party cannot continue like this.”
The PDP remains sharply divided as both factions continue to claim legitimacy, raising fresh concerns about the future of Nigeria’s main opposition platform.
