Breaking News: K1 De Ultimate Sues Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun, Others Over Awujale Succession

Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM1), has approached the Ogun State High Court to challenge the ongoing process for the installation of a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

The suit, filed at the High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, seeks an interim injunction restraining Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and five other respondents from taking further steps toward the selection and installation of the next Awujale.

Also named as defendants in the suit are the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council; and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

The legal action follows K1’s earlier declaration of interest in the vacant Awujale stool, based on claims of royal ancestry traced to the Jadiara Royal House, a lineage within the larger Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

However, the claim was reportedly rejected by the family, which maintained that the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland does not possess ancestral ties to the royal house eligible to produce the next Awujale.

In a motion ex parte filed before High Court 2, Ijebu-Ode, marked Suit No: HC3/238/2025, the Fuji legend stated that the application was brought pursuant to Order 38 Rule 4 and Order 39 Rule 1 of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024; Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended); and the inherent jurisdiction of the court.

Dated December 16, the application urges the court to restrain all respondents from proceeding with the selection process pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

According to the applicant, the court’s intervention is necessary to protect his interests and preserve the subject matter of the case from being compromised.

As at the time of filing this report, no date has been fixed for the hearing of the application.
