Residents Confirm Drone Incidents in Sokoto Communities, No Casualties or Damage Reported
Residents of Tangaza and Tambuwal Local Government Areas of Sokoto State have reported separate drone-related incidents in their communities, which they allege were carried out by the United States military, with no lives lost or property damaged.
Checks by our correspondent indicated that one of the incidents took place in Jabo District, Tambuwal Local Government Area, an area that had not previously experienced security threats. The sudden appearance of an object described as a small aircraft reportedly caused panic among residents.
Eyewitness accounts said the object later crashed to the ground, creating a noticeable crater, while flames were still observed at the impact site. They stressed that the device did not hit any homes and that no injuries or deaths were recorded.
Community members also said metal fragments were recovered from the scene and would be submitted to security agencies for examination.
In Tangaza Local Government Area, residents confirmed similar incidents at locations believed to be camps of the Lakurawa group. According to a local government official who requested anonymity, the incidents occurred between 10 p.m. and midnight at Warriya and Alkasim villages.
The official noted that the full extent of the incidents, including any possible civilian casualties, had yet to be determined, adding that security operatives were expected to visit the affected communities for on-the-spot assessments.
However, several sources, including local authorities, maintained that no air or drone strikes were recorded in the eastern axis of Sokoto State, despite the area grappling with banditry for more than ten years.
All efforts to obtain a reaction from the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, proved unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
