Tinubu Confirms Imminent Delivery of Four U.S.-Made Attack Helicopters
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that four attack helicopters procured from the United States will soon arrive in Nigeria as part of efforts to address the country’s worsening security challenges.
The president made the disclosure during a meeting with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), where he reassured citizens that his administration is taking deliberate and practical steps to strengthen national security.
According to Tinubu, the helicopters form part of ongoing initiatives to modernise the nation’s military hardware and enhance the capacity of security agencies to respond effectively to threats across the country. He explained that the acquisition of sophisticated military equipment often takes time, noting that such assets are not readily available “off the shelf.”
Despite procurement delays, the president stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to equipping the armed forces with modern tools required to tackle terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.
Tinubu also pointed to broader security reforms under consideration, including renewed conversations on state and community policing, which he said would complement federal security efforts and strengthen intelligence gathering at the grassroots.
Nigeria has in recent years faced persistent security challenges, including insurgency in the North-East, as well as banditry, kidnappings and communal violence in other regions. The deployment of the U.S.-made attack helicopters is expected to boost aerial surveillance and support security operations nationwide.
The president assured Nigerians that his administration is working closely with international partners while exploring multiple strategies aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country.
