Breaking News: Death Toll Rises to 12 as Four More Bodies Recovered from Collapsed Lagos Island Building
Four additional bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the old Great Nigeria Insurance building on Lagos Island, bringing the confirmed death toll from the tragic collapse to twelve.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that the bodies were discovered during a controlled debris removal operation at the site and have been handed over for forensic identification.
Rescue and recovery efforts remain ongoing but challenging due to the unstable condition of the 23-storey structure. Heavy-duty equipment provided by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is being used to carefully remove debris and access trapped areas without triggering further collapse.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is coordinating the multi-agency response alongside NEMA, emergency medical teams, and other first responders, while military and police personnel maintain tight security around the site.
