Canada Deports 366 Nigerians as Nearly 1,000 Face Removal
The Canadian government has deported 366 Nigerian nationals between January and October 2025, while an additional 974 Nigerians are currently listed for removal from the country, according to official data released by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
The figures indicate a renewed clampdown on immigration enforcement by Canadian authorities, with Nigeria ranking among the top countries affected by deportations within the period under review.
CBSA data showed that the 974 Nigerians categorised under “removal in progress” are individuals whose deportation procedures are ongoing and expected to be concluded once legal and administrative processes are completed.
Nigeria was listed among the top 10 countries with the highest number of deported nationals and ranked fifth among those with the most pending removals.
Canadian authorities said the increase in removals aligns with a broader immigration enforcement drive aimed at addressing border security concerns, housing pressures and compliance with immigration regulations.
Under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, foreign nationals may be removed for several reasons, including failed asylum claims, criminal convictions, misrepresentation, violations of immigration laws and security-related concerns.
Statistics revealed that failed refugee claimants account for the majority of deportations, while cases linked to criminal offences represent a smaller proportion.
Despite the enforcement actions, Canada remains a major destination for Nigerians seeking education, employment and permanent residency. Immigration records show that thousands of Nigerians continue to obtain legal resident status annually.
As enforcement intensifies, hundreds of Nigerians currently facing removal orders remain uncertain about their future, with advocacy groups calling for fair treatment and adherence to due process.
