Family Cries for Justice as Nigerian Woman Dies in UK Amid Allegations of Years of Domestic Abuse
A Nigerian family has raised the alarm over the death of their daughter and sister, Nzube Grace Obi, in the United Kingdom, alleging years of sustained physical and emotional abuse by her husband, Dr. Ifeanyi Obi, and calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to a detailed account shared by a family member, Nzube Grace Obi married Dr. Ifeanyi Obi in 2014. From the early years of the marriage until 2023, she was allegedly subjected to repeated physical and emotional abuse while living in Nigeria.
Despite these experiences, the family said she remained in the marriage in an effort to keep her family together, as the couple had four children.
She arrived in the UK in early 2024 and settled in Derby. About a year later, she reportedly informed her family that she had developed cancer and was receiving medical care.
On January 1, 2026, the family said they contacted her husband after receiving disturbing images of her condition, requesting that she be moved to a safer environment where she could receive proper care.
The following day, January 2, 2026, Dr. Obi reportedly created a WhatsApp group claiming he had taken her to the hospital to be administered painkillers. The family expressed concern over this decision, citing her existing medical condition. On January 3, 2026, he allegedly announced her death via the same WhatsApp group.
A report was subsequently filed with the UK police on January 3, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. By January 5, the family said they discovered that her husband had opened a GoFundMe account in her name without their consent, an action they described as exploitative.
The family is now calling on UK authorities to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation, insisting that their only demand is justice for Nzube Grace Obi.
