Fire Guts One-Storey Commercial Building at Computer Village, Losses Run Into Millions

A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday destroyed a one-storey commercial building at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, resulting in the loss of goods worth millions of naira.

The inferno, which broke out in the morning, razed several shops within the building, destroying valuable items including gadgets, laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic accessories.

The Lagos State Fire Service has confirmed that the fire was successfully extinguished, preventing it from spreading to adjoining structures in the busy commercial hub.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. However, authorities confirmed that the scale of the damage was significant, leaving many shop owners counting heavy losses.

“It is a difficult day for the affected business owners,” a source familiar with the incident said, noting that the fire occurred at the beginning of the year, compounding the economic hardship faced by traders.

Computer Village, located in the heart of Ikeja, is one of Africa’s largest technology markets, and the incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety measures within densely packed commercial areas.
