Okanlomo Oodua: Chief Dotun Sanusi Acquires Spanish Football Club, Emerges Chairman

Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort (Hospitality) Limited CEO, Chief Dotun Sanusi has officially acquired Spanish football club Club Deportivo Atlético Berja, marking a significant milestone in Nigerian participation in European football ownership.

The takeover was formalized on January 29, 2026, when Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort assumed full ownership of Interlink, gaining control of its assets and subsidiaries, including Atlético Berja, which is based in Andalusia, Spain.

The transition in ownership was sealed during an Extraordinary General Assembly held at the Salva Sevilla Municipal Stadium, where a new Board of Directors was unanimously appointed to steer the club under its new leadership structure.

Chief Dotun Sanusi, popularly known as “Okanlomo Oodua,” has emerged as the Chairman and President of Atlético Berja, leading a newly constituted board tasked with shaping the club’s future direction.

Speaking on the development, Sanusi described the acquisition as more than a football investment, emphasizing its broader impact on youth development, community engagement, and sustainable sports growth. He noted that the move aligns with Ilaji’s wider mission in hospitality, international collaboration, and social development through sports.

The new leadership has pledged to prioritize grassroots football, strengthen community ties, and position Atlético Berja for long-term growth and competitiveness.

With the acquisition, a new chapter opens for Atlético Berja as the club embarks on its journey under Nigerian ownership, signaling a growing presence of African investors in European football.
