AfCFTA Opportunity: Nigeria Can Hit 90% Non-Oil Export Trade — Rabiu
Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has said Nigeria has the potential to achieve up to 90 percent non-oil export trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Rabiu made the assertion while highlighting the opportunities presented by AfCFTA, noting that Nigeria’s vast resources and industrial capacity position it to benefit significantly from intra-African trade.
According to him, a strong focus on manufacturing, agriculture and value addition could help the country reduce its dependence on crude oil exports and diversify its economy.
He emphasised the need for improved infrastructure, stable policies and support for local industries to enable Nigerian businesses compete effectively within the African market.
Economic analysts say the AfCFTA framework offers Nigeria a major platform to expand exports, create jobs and strengthen regional trade ties.
However, they caution that achieving such ambitious targets will require deliberate investments, policy consistency and enhanced ease of doing business.
The development reinforces ongoing conversations around economic diversification and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s evolving trade landscape.
