Digital Registration Will Improve Grassroots Mobilization, Electoral Transparency – Bar. Niyi Aborisade
A UK based legal practitioner, Mogaji of Ajagba compound Oke Offa Babasale ibadan and gubernatorial aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Niyi Aborisade, has said that adopting digital registration in Nigeria’s political process will significantly improve grassroots mobilization and strengthen electoral transparency.
Aborisade made the assertion while speaking on The Poliscope, a political affairs programme on Dominion Television, on Wednesday.
The programme, themed “Digital Registration and Grassroots Democracy: Mobilization, Transparency, and the Quest for Peaceful Party Congresses,” examined how technology can enhance internal party democracy and reduce irregularities in party activities.
According to Aborisade, digital registration would enable political parties to maintain accurate membership databases, eliminate duplication, and ensure that only verified members participate in party congresses and other internal processes.
He explained that the absence of credible membership records has often fueled disputes and controversies during party congresses, noting that the introduction of digital systems would promote accountability and transparency within political parties.
The ADC chieftain also used the opportunity to encourage members and supporters of the party to actively participate in the digital registration process.
Aborisade urged all members of the African Democratic Congress to troop out and register, stressing that building a strong membership base is essential for strengthening grassroots democracy and expanding the party’s influence.
He further acknowledged that internal crises are common across political parties but emphasized that what matters most is the political will to resolve such issues.
According to him, addressing internal challenges in a transparent and responsible manner is necessary for the growth of political parties and for the greater good of Nigeria.
The discussion on The Poliscope highlighted the growing importance of technology in improving political organization, strengthening democratic participation, and ensuring more credible political processes in the country.
