“I Have to Be Involved in Choosing Iran’s Next Leader” – Trump
United States President, Donald Trump, has said he must be involved in the process of selecting Iran’s next leader following the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Trump made the remark during an interview with Axios amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
According to him, the United States should have a role in determining who succeeds Khamenei in order to ensure stability and prevent further wars.
“Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” Trump said in the interview.
He also reportedly described Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as a “lightweight,” insisting that he should not become Iran’s next leader.
Mojtaba Khamenei has been widely mentioned as a possible successor to his father, although Iran has yet to officially announce who will assume the position of Supreme Leader.
Reports indicate that Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for selecting the country’s Supreme Leader, is expected to decide on the next leader in the coming days.
Trump’s comments have sparked global reactions, as the leadership of Iran is traditionally determined internally by the country’s clerical and political institutions without external involvement.
The remarks come as tensions remain high across the Middle East following ongoing military exchanges between Iran and a coalition of U.S. and Israeli forces.
