Tinubu Approves Ambassadorial Postings, Assigns Fani-Kayode, Omokri, Ajimobi to Key Diplomatic Missions
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of several Nigerians as ambassadors to various countries, assigning a mix of career diplomats and political appointees to represent the country abroad.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the postings followed earlier confirmation of the nominees by the Nigerian Senate.
Among the prominent appointments, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been posted to Germany, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.
Also on the list is Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, widow of former Oyo State governor Abiola Ajimobi, who has been assigned as Nigeria’s envoy to Austria.
In another notable appointment, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and former Minister of Health, Isaac Folorunso Adewole, has been posted as Nigeria’s ambassador to Canada.
According to the presidency, the ambassadorial list consists of both career and non-career diplomats who will represent Nigeria in strategic countries and international missions across the world.
The Federal Government said the appointments are part of efforts by the administration to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence, promote economic cooperation, and advance the country’s foreign policy objectives.
The newly appointed ambassadors are expected to undergo the necessary diplomatic briefings and documentation through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) before departing for their respective countries of assignment.
The development comes months after several Nigerian diplomatic missions operated without substantive ambassadors, following the recall of envoys shortly after President Tinubu assumed office.
