FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday for Workers’ Day
The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Nigerian workers and praised their hard work, resilience, and dedication to national development.
Tunji-Ojo said the contributions of Nigerian workers remain vital to the country’s growth and prosperity, urging them to continue to uphold the values of patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and security, while creating a more enabling environment for economic growth.
The minister further urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the celebration, and to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, diligence, and nation-building.
