Male Fans Flood My Inbox with Explicit Messages Every Morning — Actress Damilola Oni Laments Online Harassment
Nollywood actress Damilola Oni has spoken out about the persistent online harassment she faces, revealing that male followers regularly send her explicit messages and unsolicited images.
In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, the actress described the situation as a daily ordeal, particularly on social media where she says she is often sexualised because of her physique.
According to her, opening her Instagram account each morning has become troubling due to the nature of messages she receives. She disclosed that some men send explicit photos accompanied by suggestive remarks, while others make disturbing claims about how they engage with her on-screen appearances.
Oni noted that the messages come from a wide range of individuals, including older men, making the experience even more uncomfortable. She added that some go as far as making inappropriate confessions, which she described as deeply unsettling.
Beyond the issue of online harassment, the actress also reflected on her personal life and experiences within the film industry. She revealed that she is currently single and expressed concerns about the dynamics in Nollywood, noting that visibility and loudness often take precedence over talent.
She further recounted a difficult moment on a movie set where she lost a lead role after a colleague allegedly refused to work with her. After waiting for several hours on set, she was informed of the decision and was later offered a lesser role by the producer.
Despite the setback, Oni said she accepted the role, maintaining her resolve to remain in the industry.
“I won’t leave because of anyone. Nobody can send me away from this industry,” she stated.
