Oyo 2027: Race for APC Ticket Begins as AKK Moves Decisively
A leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, popularly known as AKK, has declared his readiness to formally enter the race for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket, saying he is fully prepared to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms.
AKK made this known in a statement on Saturday, describing the move as a natural progression of his long-standing grassroots engagement and commitment to his “Realistic Tomorrow” agenda for Oyo State.
According to him, the release of the electoral timetable and guidelines by the APC National Secretariat has set the stage for what he described as a defining moment in his political journey and a historic commitment to the future of Oyo State.
“I wish to state, with absolute clarity and resolve, that I am fully prepared and ready to proceed with the purchase of the gubernatorial nomination and expression of interest forms,” AKK said.
He noted that his political structure and resources have been strategically positioned to meet all institutional requirements, stressing that his campaign remains one of the most prepared and organised ahead of the APC primaries.

Reaffirming his democratic credentials, AKK said he remains committed to internal democracy and due process within the APC, noting that party strength is rooted in democratic values, open consultation and institutional discipline.
He said while he remains ready to seek the support of delegates across the state, he would continue to align his actions with the party’s leadership and directives in the interest of unity and collective progress.
“I have always maintained that I am a democrat to the core. I believe the strength of a political institution is found in its adherence to democratic procedures,” he said.
AKK added that internal consensus, dialogue and consultation should be seen as democratic instruments that strengthen the party rather than weaken competition, stressing that party unity would remain central to his political calculations.
The APC aspirant said history has shown that the party performs best when stakeholders work with shared understanding and a harmonised vision, adding that the process leading to the emergence of the party’s flagbearer must reflect strategic thinking and a commitment to presenting the most viable candidate.
He expressed confidence in his credentials and electability, saying he possesses the intellectual depth, strategic capacity and political maturity required to lead Oyo State and fly the APC’s flag in 2027.
AKK, however, stressed that his ambition remains rooted in party loyalty and collective interest, insisting that unity within the APC remains critical to defeating opposition forces in the next election.
He also called on his supporters, coordinators and party loyalists across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State to intensify mobilisation and remain focused as the race enters a decisive phase.
According to him, the coming days would be critical in shaping the direction of the aspiration and determining the strength of the movement he has built across the state.
