Q: Happy Birthday, Mr. Akanmu-Bode! Today is quite the milestone. Looking back at your journey from education to political communication and strategy, what drives you?
Answer: Thank you! At 43, I view life strictly through the lens of impact. Spending 15 years as an educator taught me how to shape individual minds; now, in political strategy, I am focused on shaping the collective future of our society. My drive is rooted in a simple conviction: good governance isn't an accident—it is the product of deliberate strategy and sound education. I am bringing that academic discipline and political science rigour to ensure that the people of Oyo South get the sophisticated representation they deserve.
Q: You’ve just been appointed as SA Media and Strategy to Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu. What are your primary goals for this role?
Answer: First, I must express my profound appreciation to Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu for this opportunity. It is an honour to apply my expertise as a political scientist to a vision I truly believe in. My goal is to move beyond the role of a spectator. Oyo South is at a crossroads, and we need a representative voice that is both compassionate and competent. This appointment is about merging media excellence with grassroots precision. BASA represents the transformative leadership that our district is hungry for.
Q: Let’s talk about your principal. Why is Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu the right person for Oyo South Senatorial District?
Answer: Oyo South is the intellectual and commercial heartbeat of the Southwest. It requires more than just a politician; it requires a solution-provider. BASA brings a unique "Diaspora-meets-Grassroots" perspective that is rare in our current climate. Being bi-racial and having served as SSA Diaspora to the Governor of Oyo State, she understands how to bridge global governance standards with local realities. She isn’t going to the Senate to simply "occupy a seat"—she is going there to legislate for wealth creation, security, and the restored dignity of every constituent in Oyo South.
Q: Some say Oyo South is a "man’s game" in terms of toughness. How does she stand out against the political veterans?
Answer: In modern politics, strategy beats "toughness" every single time. While others are stuck playing old-school politics of intimidation, we are engaging in the politics of "Hearts and Minds." BASA’s track record—through the BASA Foundation and her previous roles in government—proves she is a leader who actually touches lives. Her gender is a strategic asset; she brings a level of empathy, integrity, and multi-tasking governance that the Senate needs.
Q: As her Media and Strategy lead, what is your "winning formula" for the 9 Local Governments in the district?
Answer: Our formula is a synchronized "Air and Ground" offensive. We are dominating the digital space to engage our vibrant youth population, while simultaneously maintaining a formidable grassroots presence. From the bustling stalls of Bodija to the agricultural hubs of Ibarapa and the developing corridors of Ido, we are ensuring our message is inescapable. We want every constituent to know that a vote for BASA is a vote for a Senator they can actually reach and hold accountable.
Q: Final word for the birthday man? What should we expect from the BASA campaign in the coming months?
Answer: Right now, we are focused on the primaries, which we are confident of winning. Once INEC blows the whistle for the general campaign, the public should expect a movement based on issues, not insults. Our strategy is data-driven, civilized, and relentlessly people-focused. My birthday wish today isn't just for personal growth, but for an Oyo South that finally achieves its full potential under the visionary leadership of Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu.
