Lagos State Government Gives Peace Corps Clearance To Operate.
The Lagos State government has formally cleared the Peace Corps of Nigeria to commence full operations in the State under the supervision of State Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
During an official visit to the State Ministry by the National Commandant, Prof. Dickson Akoh, the Director of Youth Development Department of the Ministry, Mr Saka Abdul-lateef presented a letter of registration to him on behalf of the Ministry and by extension on behalf of the State.
The letter formally recognize as well as acknowledge the importance of the Corps in the State and the role it can play especially with the recent increase in security challenges in the State and the Nation at large.
Speaking at the presentation, the Director, Youth Development, Mr Saka stated that Peace Corps is not a new organization to the Ministry and the State Government, as such this is a re-registration as well as a recertification of the Corps by the State Government. He, however, advise the Commandant and officers of the Corps in the State to be upright and committed to Corps’ core mandate.

Responding on behalf of the Corps, the National Commandant, Prof Akoh, while expressing his gratitude to the State Government for renewed confidence in the Corps,  reassured the state Government of the Corps' total commitment and readiness to ensure that the renewed relationship being is taken to a greater height. He also reinstate that the Corps will continue to work hand-in-hand with the ministry and indeed the State in all youth and security related matters in the State.
