Baby D!es In Hospital After Losing Mum, Brother In Auto Crash
A three-month-old baby girl, Ivy, has died in the hospital following a highway car crash that claimed the life of her mum, Katrina Sila, 34, and two-year-older brother, Kai Prahastono.
They died instantly when their silver SUV veered into a cement truck on the other side of the Hume Highway at Menangle Park, southwest Sydney, around 11.20 am on Monday.
Ivy was trapped in the wreckage for up to an hour before she was rescued and airlifted to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in critical condition.
The male truck driver, 48, was not injured and will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the coroner.
A paramedic from Ambulance NSW, Mark Gibbs, said, "It is hard to think anybody did survive that wreckage, such a tragic and high-speed incident."
