Epe Land Hijack: Abomiti, Yegunda, Eyin-Osa's Lawyer Hails Lagos Assembly's intervention
*Urges Speaker Obasa To Find Lasting Solution
In a bid to address the alleged hijack of lands by government officials, Barrister Jimoh Saliu, a lawyer representing the residents of Abomiti, Yegunda, and Eyin-Osa in Epe, has praised the Lagos State House of Assembly for intervening.
He has also urged the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, to swiftly resolve the issue of land matters.
During an interview with newsmen, Barrister Saliu expressed satisfaction with the fruitful outcome of the meeting held between the committee of the Lagos Assembly and the communities.
He called on Speaker Obasa and the Assembly's leadership to promptly return the lands to their rightful owners, bringing the matter to a conclusive end.
"The Assembly committee did an exceptional job and treated us with respect. As a fact-finding body, we trust that they will take the necessary action. They carefully examined the grievances of the residents from the beginning to the present and agreed that the Central Working Committees have failed in their duties," Barrister Saliu stated.
"We have faith in Speaker Obasa's leadership because he is a compassionate and caring individual who genuinely cares for the welfare of the people," he added.
The communities, consisting of approximately 100 individuals, had previously staged a protest and submitted a petition to the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Noheem Adams Eti-Osa 1. In the petition, the community development associations of Abomiti, Eyin-Osa, and Yegunda called on Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to intervene and facilitate the return of their lands.
The residents expressed concerns over escalating tensions in the affected areas and warned of potential crises similar to those witnessed in the Niger Delta region if the issue remains unresolved. The petition also highlighted the involvement of government officials in the Central Working Committees responsible for the alleged land hijack, urging the State government to honor its agreements with the communities.
In response to the petition, Hon. Noheem Adams assured the protesters that the House would thoroughly investigate the matter and work towards a resolution. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and urged the residents to remain calm throughout the investigation.
With the Lagos State House of Assembly actively involved in addressing the alleged land hijack, the residents of Abomiti, Yegunda, and Eyin-Osa in Epe are hopeful that justice will be served and that their lands will be rightfully returned to them.
