Sokoto Gov, Aliyu Dethrones 15 Traditional Rulers

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has dethroned 15 district heads on various charges ranging from insubordination to land racketeering. The announcement was made through his press secretary, Abubakar Bawa, in a statement released on Tuesday evening.
Among the district heads dethroned were prominent figures including those from Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, Illela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, and Giyawa districts. The list also included officials appointed during the previous administration under former Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Governor Aliyu raised concerns over the manner of appointment of Tambuwal's appointees, stating that they were hastily selected and now faced rejection from their communities. Notably, the cases involving the district heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi have been earmarked for further investigation.
As the state seeks to restore public trust and root out corruption, the Governor emphasized the importance of upholding ethical standards in public service. Notable figures such as Marafan Tangaza, Sarkin Gabas Kalambaina, Bunun Gongono, Sarkin Kudun Yar Tsakkuwa, Sarkin Tambuwal, and Sarkin Yamman Torankavwa were among those subject to removal from their positions.

The Governor's decisive action serves as a reminder to all public officials that misconduct and malfeasance will not be tolerated within Sokoto State. Further transparency and accountability measures are expected to be put in place to ensure the welfare and prosperity of the state's residents.
