Why I didn’t build new schools in Anambra as governor – Peter Obi opens up
The Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, recently addressed criticisms claiming that he did not initiate any new school construction projects during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.
A well-known figure on social media, Reno Omokri, had openly challenged Obi and his supporters to provide evidence of a single school that Obi had started and completed during his eight-year tenure as governor. Omokri even offered a reward for anyone who could furnish proof of a school built by Obi.
In response to these allegations, Obi held a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday where he stated that those making such claims had not familiarized themselves with his agenda. He highlighted that upon assuming office in Anambra State, the education system was in disarray, schools were shut down, and the state ranked 26th nationwide. However, upon his departure, Anambra had risen to the top spot in the country.
Obi emphasized that he focused on enhancing the overall quality of life, both mentally and physically, of the people of Anambra. He ensured schools were adequately equipped and functioning well, which led to significant improvements and achievements for the residents of the state. Obi equated the importance of revitalizing existing infrastructure over building new structures that might not address the core needs of the community.
