Governor Sanwo-Olu's Bold Promise: Lekki Will Never Turn into Another Apapa!
In an effort to avoid the chaotic gridlock that plagues Apapa, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through his Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, has reaffirmed the commitment to ensure that Lekki is adequately prepared for its rapid development.
Speaking at the 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Daramola highlighted the importance of proactive infrastructural development in Lekki to accommodate the anticipated growth in activities. With projects like the Deep Sea Port, Dangote Refinery, and the Airport in motion, the government is focused on providing necessary infrastructure to prevent Lekki from facing challenges similar to Apapa.
Daramola emphasized that the administration is not neglecting other areas of Lagos State but is strategically focusing on Lekki due to its significance as a hub for major projects. The aim is to create alternative routes to reduce travel time and prevent congestion in the area.
Projects such as the Lagos Lagoon Highway, the 7th axial road, and various bridge constructions across the state are being actively supervised to realize the governor's vision of making Lagos a Mega State with functional infrastructure. Since Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat assumed office, the Public Works Corporation has intervened in over 2,700 roads, covering approximately 431.32 km.
Despite global economic challenges, the administration is committed to completing ongoing projects and embarking on new strategic developments to ensure that Lagos remains an economic destination with sustainable infrastructure in place. The emphasis is on projects that will benefit all residents of Lagos State, not just specific areas.
With this ambitious infrastructural drive, Governor Sanwo-Olu's administration is dedicated to preventing Lekki from facing the same fate as Apapa, ensuring that the region's growth is supported by adequate and efficient infrastructure.
