Popular Federal Lawmaker, Isa Dongoyaro Is Dead
The representative for Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House of Representatives, Isa Dogonyar, has passed away.
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, announced the sad news in a Facebook post on Friday morning.
El-Rufai described Dogonyaro as a talented parliamentarian and a good man.
He expressed, "Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. Today, we lost a colleague in the House of Representatives, a talented parliamentarian and an overall good man. May Allah SWT forgive him and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
Dogonyaro had been declared the rightful APC candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2023 general election following a court decision that overturned Aminu Kanta's victory in the primary election for the constituency.
The Speaker for the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, confirmed Dogonyaro's passing in a statement on Friday, revealing that the Jigawa lawmaker died in Abuja after a short illness.
Rotimi's statement praised Dogonyaro's dedication as a legislator and highlighted his contributions to various areas of legislation, particularly in HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control.
He noted, "Elected under the All Progressives Congress, Dogonyaro was respected for his integrity, diligence, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of Nigerians. His absence will be deeply felt in the House of Representatives.”
The statement also emphasized Dogonyaro's qualities as not just a lawmaker, but as a patriotic Nigerian known for his friendly demeanor and intellectual prowess.
Dogonyaro is survived by wives and children, and details about his funeral arrangements will be shared later.
