Breaking News: FCT Minister Wike Approves Immediate Payment of N70,000 Minimum Wage, Three Months’ Arrears
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the immediate payment of N70,000 as the new minimum wage for all staff under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). The announcement follows President Bola Tinubu's signing of the Minimum Wage Bill into law in May 2024, after months of negotiations with organized labour.
The approval, which was communicated on Tuesday through a statement signed by Anthony Odeh, Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, is aimed at addressing the financial challenges faced by civil servants.

The statement confirmed that Wike authorized the payment on Monday, November 18, 2024, while also approving three months’ arrears for staff, effective from November 2024. This move is seen as part of the administration's efforts to alleviate the economic burdens on its workforce.
Acting Head of Civil Service of the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, expressed appreciation for the minister’s commitment to improving the welfare of FCTA staff. “This development underscores the administration's dedication to enhancing the livelihoods of its workforce,” she noted.

The implementation of the new minimum wage is expected to bring significant relief to FCT workers as the government continues to prioritize their welfare amidst the current economic challenges.
