Breaking News: Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Remanded in Kuje Prison Until January 2025
A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the remand of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in Kuje Correctional Centre until January 29, 2025. The decision comes amidst his ongoing trial over alleged involvement in a N110 billion money laundering case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The trial, initially set to proceed this year, has been adjourned until February 25, 2025. Justice Maryann Anenih, presiding over the case, cited procedural errors in Bello’s bail application, declaring it premature as it was filed before his arraignment or detention.
Bello, along with two co-defendants, is facing charges of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property. The EFCC alleges that Bello misappropriated state funds to acquire several high-value properties, including:
- No. 35 Danube Street, Maitama District, Abuja (valued at N950 million).
- No. 1160 Cadastral Zone C03, Gwarimpa II District, Abuja (valued at N100 million).
- No. 2 Justice Chukwudifu Oputa Street, Asokoro, Abuja (valued at N920 million).

The former governor has been in detention since November 25. His bail application, filed before his arraignment, was deemed procedurally invalid by the court, prolonging his time in custody.

The case, registered as CR/7781, has drawn significant attention as one of the most high-profile corruption trials involving a former governor.
