Breaking News: Tinubu Swears In Ibas As Rivers Sole Administrator
In a bold move to restore stability in Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the new Sole Administrator of the state. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja, in the presence of top government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
It can be recalled that President Tinubu had, on Tuesday night, declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the escalating political crisis. In a sweeping decision, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
To ensure effective governance during this period, the President appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator to oversee the state's affairs until normalcy is restored. Ibas, a seasoned military officer, previously served as the Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
With this development, the Federal Government aims to bring order to Rivers State and chart a new course for its political future. Stakeholders and citizens alike await further directives as the new administration takes charge.
