Vicious killer: Man jailed for beating ex-Doctor Ogunmuyiwa to death in London
Paul Campbell, 43, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison with a five-year extended licence for the brutal manslaughter of 62-year-old former doctor, Gordon Ogunmuyiwa, a vulnerable and defenceless man he left to die after a savage beating at his south-east London home.
The horrific incident occurred on Christmas Eve 2022 at Campbell’s property on Dunheved Road West, Thornton Heath.
Ogunmuyiwa, who had no history of violence and was known as a kind-hearted neighbour and friend, had visited Campbell’s house that day, a decision that proved fatal.
After violently assaulting Ogunmuyiwa, Campbell casually called paramedics and fled. By the time help arrived, Ogunmuyiwa was dead.
Campbell, a manipulative and self-serving man, didn’t just stop at violence, he went on to exploit Ogunmuyiwa’s death by using his credit cards to buy an iPhone from a second-hand shop just days later.
During the three-week trial at Woolwich Crown Court, damning evidence revealed a pattern of abuse.
Other residents at the house told detectives that Campbell routinely subjected Ogunmuyiwa to beatings. A post-mortem confirmed Ogunmuyiwa suffered multiple injuries over time, but the Christmas Eve attack heard by neighbours was the most vicious, ultimately leading to his death.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, who led the investigation, said: “Gordon was a gentle man whose vulnerability was cruelly exploited by Campbell. His actions were senseless and cowardly. I hope today’s sentencing brings a measure of justice to Gordon’s grieving family.”
Campbell, who was arrested on 11 January 2023 and charged the following day, was convicted of manslaughter on 8 May 2025.
The sentence handed down marks a firm response to a brutal crime that shocked the local community and robbed a family of a beloved brother and friend.
