Breaking News:“Tinubu Did Not Make Buhari President — He Already Had 12 Million Votes, APC Merger Only Added 3 Million,” Says Ex-SGF Boss Mustapha
standing political narrative, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has declared that President Bola Tinubu did not make Muhammadu Buhari President, contrary to the President’s public claims.
Speaking at the official unveiling of “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience”, a book written by Garba Shehu, former presidential spokesperson, Mustapha said Buhari’s consistent 12 million votes prior to the 2015 election was the real foundation of his eventual victory.
“President Buhari already had 12 million votes in his political base. The merger of the legacy parties that formed the APC only contributed about 3 million additional votes,” Mustapha stated, directly challenging Tinubu’s assertion.
Recall that in the run-up to the 2023 elections, Tinubu had taken credit for Buhari’s emergence as President in 2015, claiming that the former general had failed multiple times and was ready to give up before he personally intervened.
“He even wept on national TV… but I went to meet him in Kaduna and told him to run again. I will stand by you, and you will win,” Tinubu had declared, adding that he also demanded Yoruba political recognition in exchange.
But Mustapha’s comments now call that claim into question and reignite discussions over who truly carried the weight that brought the APC to power.
The comments are already generating mixed reactions among political analysts and party loyalists, with some viewing it as an attempt to rewrite political history.
