Enugu Man Beats Own Mother to D3ath Over Land Dispute, Tracked and Beaten by Vigilantes

In a shocking and heartbreaking twist, a land dispute turned deadly in Enugu State after a man identified as Abuchi Joseph allegedly murdered his 65-year-old mother, Josephine Azegba, with a hoe during an argument over family land. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The tragic incident unfolded in Umuogbo Ulo community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, and has since sent shockwaves across social media and local communities.
According to a report by renowned security analyst Zagazola Makama, the horrific act was reported by the deceased’s daughter, Charity Azegba, who watched in horror as the land dispute spiraled out of control.

The Dispute That Turned Deadly

Sources say the suspect struck his mother on the head with an iron hoe during a fiery disagreement regarding the sale of ancestral land. The injury was fatal, and Josephine was confirmed d3ad on the spot.

In a desperate bid to escape justice, Abuchi Joseph reportedly fled the scene, triggering a massive manhunt by local security forces and vigilant youths.

Vigilante Justice Catches Up

However, luck ran out for Abuchi after he snatched a motorcycle from a woman in the neighboring Okata community, attempting to make a quick getaway. He was caught, beaten, and restrained by enraged locals before being handed over to authorities.

Investigation Underway
The body of the late Josephine Azegba has been deposited at Ogrute General Hospital mortuary for autopsy as the Enugu State Police Command intensifies investigations into the case.

“This is one of the most disturbing family tragedies we’ve seen in years. We urge communities to seek peaceful resolution rather than resorting to violence,” said a local spokesperson.
