Breaking News: Outrage as Flood Submerges Homes in Ijede, Ikorodu — Residents Cry for Help, Call on Sanwo-Olu
Tension and frustration have gripped residents of Ijede in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State following a devastating flood that has submerged homes and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
Reporters gathered that the flood, which swept through the community after hours of relentless rainfall, left the majority of houses underwater, forcing families to flee with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Victims of the disaster said they were unable to salvage any of their belongings as the water surged through homes, destroying furniture, electronics, food supplies, documents, and other valuables.
“This is the worst we’ve ever seen. The flood has wiped out everything. We couldn’t save anything—our entire lives have been washed away,” a resident lamented while speaking to Lagos Reporters.
Another affected resident said, “We are stranded, we have no shelter, no food, nothing. We are calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to our rescue. We can’t do this alone.”
The disaster has sparked widespread outrage in the area, with many accusing the government of neglect and poor drainage infrastructure. Some residents believe that the disaster could have been mitigated if necessary flood-control measures had been implemented.
